A Basic view of GSM Network Architecture & Components

A GSM network comprises of following units:

–> MS: Mobile Station

–> BSS: Base Station Sub System

–> NSS: Network Switching Sub System

–> OSS: Operation Support Sub System

GSM architecture also  comprise of below database and routing entities:

Home Location Register (HLR)

Visitor Location Register (VLR)

Equipment Identity Register (EIR)

Authentication Center (AuC)

SMS Serving Center (SMS SC)

Gateway MSC (GMSC)

Chargeback Center (CBC)

Transcoder and Adaptation Unit (TRAU)
